One Day without Shoes: Because They Don’t Have a Choice

 Because they can…I’m not!
Today, I’m going barefoot (One Day Without Shoes).
As I dropped my children off at school today, my 4 year old asked me why I wasn’t wearing shoes. I told that I was going barefoot today. He said, “Why?” I said, “Because lots of little children don’t have shoes to wear.” He said “oh, ok.” He didn’t understand, but it was sweet.
I choose to spend the day barefoot. I ran my errands this morning barefoot. I cleaned my house barefoot (well, that one doesn’t really count, I do that every day) and now I’m blogging about it, yep you guessed it, barefoot.
Why you ask? Well, you can read about it at One Day Without Shoes. I’m doing this to help raise awareness for all the little children in the world who don’t have shoes to wear. Who can’t attend school, because they don’t have shoes. Some even become very sick and may even lose their feet from a disease they picked up because they have to walk around barefooted all the time. I may only be one person, but together we can make a small difference.
I personally don’t wear Toms shoes, they just aren’t my style. But I know people who do and they feel really good about purchasing a pair of these shoes, because they know that some little child, who didn’t have shoes, just got a pair. How do you not feel good about that?
I’ve read where there are some people that think this is wrong. That we have bigger problems that need to be dealt with or that it’s wrong for a “for-profit” business to use this to make money. Why is it wrong, if they are trying to make a difference? I agree we do have bigger problems. But who says this problem isn’t big? I think it is.
I hope you joined in and went barefoot today. If you did, I’d love for you to tell me about it!
